Dr. Premkumar Balachandran

Dr. Premkumar Balachandran is a senior consultant in general, minimal access, bariatric, and robotic surgery at Apollo Institutes of Hernia Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, Chennai. He holds MBBS and MS qualifications, along with FRCS (Glasgow), M.MAS (UK), and fellowships including FICS, FMAS, and FIAGES. His clinical work focuses on gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric procedures, and complex hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction. He also serves as an honorary associate professor at the Apollo Hospitals Education and Research Foundation and coordinates the Department of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Apollo Specialty Hospital, OMR.

Dr. Balachandran is associated with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow as an international advisor in India and contributes to surgical communities such as the Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgeons Community (AWRSC), where he serves as Director for the South Zone. He is a member of multiple national and international surgical associations and serves on the editorial boards of the World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery and Frontiers in Visceral Surgery.
