Dr. Venkatesh B.S. is an Indian hepatobiliary surgeon, abdominal organ transplant specialist, educator, and healthcare entrepreneur known for his work in liver transplantation, complex hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, transplant oncology, and multivisceral transplantation. Early Life and Education
Dr. Venkatesh completed his undergraduate medical training at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, where he earned his MBBS degree.
Driven by an early interest in surgical sciences, he pursued his Master of Surgery (M.S.) in General Surgery from Stanley Medical College and Hospital. During his postgraduate training, he demonstrated consistent academic excellence and was awarded the prestigious Surgical Gastroenterology Gold Medal in his final examination by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
His growing interest in complex hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation led him to pursue superspecialty training in HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, where he completed his M.Ch. in HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation between 2017 and 2020.
During his time at ILBS, Dr. Venkatesh was recognized for his commitment to academic mentoring and surgical education, receiving the ILBS Young Mentor Award under the aegis of the University Grants Commission in 2020.
Career
Dr. Venkatesh has built his career across some of India’s leading transplant centers.
Following his superspecialty training, he joined Apollo Hospitals as Consultant in Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, where he served from 2021 to 2025. During this period, he worked extensively in liver transplantation, gastrointestinal oncosurgery, transplant oncology, donor surgery, and advanced hepatobiliary procedures.
Across his surgical career, he has actively contributed to more than 450 liver transplant procedures, including both living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT). His surgical expertise includes recipient hepatectomy, donor hepatectomy, cadaveric multiorgan retrieval, pancreas transplantation, kidney transplantation, and complex hepatopancreatobiliary resections.
In 2025, he joined MGM Healthcare as Consultant in Multivisceral Transplant Surgery, where his work now spans liver, pancreas, kidney, small intestine, and multivisceral transplant programs.
In parallel, he became Director of CareVue Health, where he works on integrating transplant medicine with technology-driven healthcare models, regenerative medicine, precision nutrition, and advanced patient support systems.
Beyond metropolitan hospitals, Dr. Venkatesh has actively conducted peripheral outreach clinics across multiple Indian states, including Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, helping bring specialized liver and transplant care to underserved populations.
